Adopt-a-Resident

Thanks in large part to the help of volunteers from all over the United States, Broadmoor has restored over 79% of its residential properties – one of the top recovery rates in New Orleans.  We are proud of this success but challenges persist: hundreds of blighted properties scar our streets, and the poverty rate is triple the national average. 

The situation is complex. Some Broadmoorians are elderly or have disabilities and are incapable of navigating the path to home repair all alone.  Many retired before Hurricane Katrina and cannot extend their pensions to repair their homes.  Others have partially repaired their houses but cannot bridge the gap between insurance and government funding.  Some have been victims of contractor fraud.  And still others have renovated their homes but lack the funding to buy appliances.

Broadmoor is depending upon volunteers and donors more than ever to restore the final 28% of housing.  There are two ways you can help:

 Join us for a week – for work on a house in Broadmoor.  We will provide room, board, and three meals a day.  Visit www.annunciationmission.org to learn how you can board in Broadmoor and work with us!

 Adopt a Resident – Click on the names below and read the stories of some of our residents who are in the process of repairing their homes. They all have unmet needs – from household appliances to significant house restorations. Your donations can make an immediate difference in the lives of these residents and their families by bringing them one step closer to finishing their houses and coming home.
